Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel and it's a sacred city to the three major monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Jerusalem is situated in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. Despite the conflicts that surround the city, it exudes a harmonious atmosphere that you can feel the moment you step into the city, as if the weight of its spiritual surroundings descends upon your shoulders. The Old City and its Walls are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient city houses holy sites for Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and is brimming with locations of immense religious importance and a vibrant approach to life. The three main attractions within the Old City are the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Temple Mount area which includes the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa mosque. Via Dolorosa is the most frequented street within the Old City, particularly among Christian pilgrims as it is believed to be the path that Jesus Christ took on his way to his crucifixion. There are 14 Stations of the Cross along this route. The 14th Station of the Cross, which is the final and most significant location in Christianity, is located in the center of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Modern Jerusalem, where most of the hotels and restaurants are found, is built around the Old City. Jerusalem is the holiest of Holy Cities and offers a wealth of sights to see and explore. The city is a captivating mix of tradition, religion, and modern life. It manages to feel utterly exotic and mysterious, yet entirely familiar and welcoming.
