The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a protected region situated in the volcanic highlands of Tanzania. The entire protected territory spans an area of approximately 8500 km². Due to its location in the volcanic highlands, there are nine volcanoes, with only one, the Oldoinyo Lengai, being active. The area's tourist attractions primarily consist of safaris and guided tours conducted throughout the natural region. However, two of the most appealing tourist destinations in Tanzania, which also enjoy significant global popularity, are located here. These are the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater and the Oldupai Gorge, one of the most crucial sites for studying human evolution.
